The two german designers Markus Gogolin and Hedwig Rotter created these soccer inspired vases, called "finale!". Finale means in German, final and since they expected the german team to make the finals of the soccer world-cup, they created this series.

What the design duo didn't count on was Italy destroying coach Jurgen Klinsmann's hopes of emulating the West Germany team of 1974 with two last-gasp goals, taking Gli Azzuri to a final showdown with either Portugal or the other boys in blue, France.

The theme of this year’s festival is Pod; exploring the ways textiles can house objects, including muffs, pockets, sleeves and cozies for accessories such as iPods and mobile phones.

Hundreds of unique scarves will be on sale and display at the ‘Melbourne Scarf Market’; a forest-like display of hand-crafted scarves submitted by professional and amateur makers that fills Craft Victoria's Flinders Lane gallery for three days.

After a brief hiatus brought about by an overload of actual work, I have re-entered the blogosphere. Previously, my average working day consisted of trawling the web for anything that would relieve my boredom and emailing the results to friends to break up their own monotonous working days. Sadly, this is no longer the case. It would seem my Senior Project Manager thought I was serious when I revealed at my annual performance review my current tasks were not presenting sufficient challenge. (Note to self: Never ask for more work, you WILL get it.)

Over the past few weeks my brain has been adjusting to more than sporadic use and has now completed a rude awakening from its semi-comatic state. So fear not dear reader (all 3 of you), I shall not neglect you again. You have my solemn promise to update regularly when I'm 'between' tasks at work.

After weeks of frustrating dealings with Italian bureaucracy, I’ve been awarded a scholarship to study Italian, at the University for Foreigners, Perugia! I initially received a bitterly disappointing e-mail in error, informing me I had been placed on the reserve list. This was quickly followed by an apologetic/retracting e-mail confirming my application was indeed successful. Trust the Italian Consulate to fuck with my emotions like that. I bet my €700 stipend it's a tactic to make successful candidates painfully aware of the privilege of being bestowed with fiscal gifts from the Prodi Administration.

So, where is Perugia, you ask? I could give you a geographical explanation but all you really need to know is that the Perugina Baci chocolate hails from this mediaeval town. It also plays host to the Eurochocolate Festival, which conveniently falls within the dates of my study program (Oct-Dec 2006). As a confessed chocoholic and italophile – all my prayers have been answered at once.

To celebrate I bought a box of Baci. Each Baci, which means "kisses" in Italian, comes wrapped in a poetic love note in four languages. My first message: A wise friend knows how to spare us much pain. Fittingly plutonic for a single girl like myself.

Saw this book while browsing in Readings. Wanted to get it but the cover was slightly fucked, and I’m anal, so I memorised the website instead.

Some signs are purely graphics which can be understood universally. Those with text won’t make much sense to Gringos so I’ll translate a couple of good ones:

Bar Latino. Beve y Vete. – Latin Bar. Drink and Fuck off.

I can think of a few Melbourne bars who espouse this inhospitable philosophy; albeit transmitted silently via the death stares of their surly staff.

Este bano es solo para una emergencia y no una ‘necesidad’. Haga solo pipi . - This toilet is only for an emergency, not a ‘necessity’. One can only wee here.

I wonder what their policy on necessary emergencies is? (i.e. explosive diarrhea) I pity the person responsible for policing this.
